My name is Steve Champion (now Adisa Kamar). I am on death row at San Quentin State Prison. I have been incarcerated for 28 years. I am a former Crips gang member, who grew up in South Central Los Angeles.

I am self taught and conversant in African history, philosophy, political science an spiritual things.
As a writer and author I have received honorary mention in short fiction category in the 1995 pen prison wiring conest and in 2004 won first place in nonfiction for my essay "This spirit lives on" George E. Marshall". I am coauthor of Afterlife, a death row anthology published in 2003, and I have poetry featured in the book "Voices from the Inside". In 2007, I coauthor the book "The sacred eye of the falcon", which can be purchase on lulu.com. I am currently working on my memoir.

At times I wrestle with the walking nihilism that engulfs the world, the sheer weight of my incarceration, and the deep despair of the human condition swallows me. What I seek are not superficial nor ephemeral acquaintance, but an intimate and soulful connection. Someone who can express herself with fear and willing to explore shadows - the hidden area of where forbidden feelings are hidden.
